About CajunWX Analysis

CajunWX, an abbreviation for Cajun Weather, has its roots in years of study and practice in the field of meteorology, specifically tropical meteorology. My name is Chuck Boudreaux and I am a a native and longtime resident of the Louisiana bayous. Having spent the overwhelming majority of the first half-century of my life in coastal Louisiana, tropical meteorology, specifically hurricanes, was always a fact of life. I could track hurricanes on a tracking chart before I could spell the word! I have unfortunately also seen the real-time and firsthand effects of monsters named Hilda, Betsy, Carmen, Danny, Donna, Juan, Lili, Andrew, Gilbert and Katrina. I am proud that after completing my initial formal higher education, circumstances allowed me to add formal meteorological training to a very diverse educational background.

Most of my expertise  was directed towards public understanding of tropical and routine meteorology, working as a print meteorologist and science journalist for nearly two decades. While now retired, I continue to work with officials, both public and private, in south Louisiana with storm forecasting and projections and have remained active in the field holding memberships in the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association. It is an amazing time in meteorology with the explosive benefits of space-based sensor platforms and computer modeling.

Over the coming days we will follow the major tropical systems in the Atlantic Basin Hurricane Season. Major topics will include tropical cyclogenesis, tracking and observation platforms, models, and forecasting techniques. None of this is rocket science or only within the purview of those with lofty degrees. It just takes a willingness to learn, a bit of study, and a bit of diligence. Nothing written here should be used for making decisions to protect life or property. Always rely on the expertise of national and local weather service offices, as well as emergency management personnel, to protect yourself, family and friends. But hopefully you will be better able to make those decisions based upon what you learn here.
